And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim.
At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was given to the 12 Apostles, empowering them to go out and spread the Good News of the Resurrection to the entire world. At Confirmation, we too are sealed with the Holy Spirit, and likewise entrusted with the mission of evangelization as mature followers of Jesus Christ.
The Church identifies 7 particular graces, called the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are bestowed on us at Confirmation:
6. Piety (also called Reverence)
7. Fear of the Lord (also called Wonder and Awe)
Confirmed Catholics should remember these graces as they go about their daily lives. The heightened infusion of God’s grace provided by Confirmation is a privilege and a catalyst for positive change in our lives and the world.
At Our Lady of Ransom, Confirmation is administered in the spring to eighth grade students enrolled in the Religious Education Program. Adults who have completed the RCIA Program are confirmed at the Easter Vigil.
