Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.
Baptism is the beginning of the Christian life. It is our access to the saving sacrifice of Christ on the cross, because in it we are joined to Christ’s body, the Church.
Famed Catholic theologian Frank Sheed put it this way: “We speak of baptism as a rebirth, a being born again. And rightly. Birth means entry into life. By birth we enter into the life of man. By rebirth we enter into the life of Christ; equally, the life of Christ enters into us. Thus our Lord himself says of baptism: ‘Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit, he shall not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.'”
At Our Lady of Ransom, baptisms take place on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 1:30 PM in the Church. Baptism preparation sessions are held on the first Monday of the month at 7 PM in the Ministry Center. Families requesting baptisms must be registered in the parish prior to making arrangements. Please register by calling the Ministry Center at 847-823-2550 and speaking to one of the priests 2-3 weeks prior to the preparation session.
You observe how small a thing it is to begin with and how easily accomplished–just faith and water: faith which is a matter of our own choice, and water which is natural to man’s life. But what a blessing springs from these things–no less than kinship with God himself!
